Teachers – De-Escalation Training
De-Escalation, OVA and Protective Intervention Training For Teachers - Australia
Resolution Education is an Australian specialist OVA provider, and our training for teachers is built around the A.D.P. Framework (Awareness, De-escalation, Protection), tailored to the specific pressures and dynamics of the classroom.
From Communication to Protection
Every teacher relies on communication to run a safe, positive classroom — but when a student becomes distressed or aggressive, the usual rules change. Through Resolution Education’s training, teachers learn how tone, body language and word choice can either calm a heightened student or unintentionally make things worse — how finger-pointing can be perceived as threatening, how entering someone’s personal space can cause them to panic, and how a raised voice can turn a manageable moment into a genuine safety concern.
This is the foundation our De-Escalation and OVA (Occupational Violence and Aggression) training builds on. But communication alone isn’t always enough — for the rarer occasions when a student’s behaviour escalates beyond what words can resolve, our Protective Intervention Training (PIT) picks up where communication leaves off, teaching safe, non-restraint physical techniques so staff are never left without options. Together, these programs give your school a complete approach: communication first, with safe physical strategies in reserve for when they’re genuinely needed.
De-Escalation & OVA Training For Teachers
De-escalation training for teachers builds the practical, classroom-specific skills needed to diffuse tense situations with students before they escalate, without adding to a teacher’s existing workload.
As a teacher, it is your job to guide your students to constructively expressing themselves while ensuring the environment of the classroom stays positive. Even the best of teachers can still learn new and useful skills, that’s where classroom de-escalation training for teachers comes into play.
Through this training, you will have the necessary skills to diffuse tricky situations without being overwhelmed. De-escalating classroom situations is the best approach to take, but it is not always clear how to go about doing that, especially at a time when tensions are high.
When De-Escalation Isn't Enough: PIT Training for Teachers
Protective Intervention Training (PIT) teaches safe, non-restraint physical techniques — distancing, movement and breakaways — for the rare occasions when a student’s behaviour becomes too heightened for verbal de-escalation alone.
Built on the same A.D.P. Framework as our De-Escalation Training, PIT is specifically tailored to the education sector, giving teachers and school staff the confidence and competence to respond safely in high-risk situations without relying on aggressive restraint.
PIT is designed for employees who regularly engage with challenging, heightened, and potentially aggressive individuals. Through consultation with your school, the training is seamlessly integrated into your existing policies and procedures, and can be delivered as a half-day or full-day program, either face-to-face or virtually. Through scenario-based learning and role-plays, your team will build the skills to enhance safety, alleviate tension, and support students with behavioural challenges — strengthening relationships throughout the classroom and wider school community.

How To Understand The Psychology Of Children
Kids in the classroom are all coming from their personal backstory. When they experience a stressful situation, their body releases the stress hormone cortisol, which (while extremely helpful in certain circumstances) takes away proper mental reasoning power.
Situations that cause stress to children and young adults can be very unpredictable. Dealing with them requires the right amount of skill and patience from the teacher. However, most teachers receive little to no training in the techniques of conflict resolution. Traditional training programs for teachers usually offer a one-size-fits-all approach towards resolving conflict with students, but those typical strategies do not work for every child. Resolution Education aims to broaden the spectrum on handling rising tensions in classrooms.
